Information Engineering
Francesco Smarra received the M.Sc. degree in Control and Systems Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy, in 2010 and 2014, respectively. He accomplished the International Curriculum Option of Doctoral Studies in Networked, Embedded, and Hybrid Control Systems for Complex, Distributed and Heterogeneous Systems. He is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of L'Aquila. He has held visiting scholar positions at UC Berkeley (2012–2013) and University of Pennsylvania (2014–2015) and visiting research position at University of Pennsylvania (2016–2017). His research interests are in control theory, wireless networked control systems, building automation systems, structural health monitoring systems and machine learning. He was recipient of Fondazione Filauro award for PhD students in 2013 and of the Best Application Paper Award of the European Control Conference in 2015.
