Course Objectives
The course is based on a broad definition of the Intermediate Stage of the Common European Framework, Independent User, aimed at: understanding more complex speech used in the discussion of reasonably familiar topics; conversing with fluency and some spontaneity in every day situations; expressing and supporting views and opinions in discussion of these and other topics; contributing with greater independence to conversations relating to a range of topics of social and current interest; initiating, maintaining and influencing the direction of conversations on general and more abstract topics.
Students will also be guided towards simple writing activities like 'reading into writing', correspondence and creative tasks.
Moreover, a part of the course aims at making them able to understand technical/scientific texts in the area of computer science and related disciplines.

- (Spoken interaction-production) can present clear, detailed descriptions on subjects related to the field of interest, and can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party
- (Writing) can produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Prerequisites and Learning Activities
The attendance at classes is mandatory.
Only students with a certified B1 level are admitted to attend the course.
Assessment Methods and Criteria
Written: a test on the grammar topics revised; oral: a discussion on a prepared topic.
