Course Objectives

Introduction to nonlinear systems.

Course Content

Nonlinear systems: Introduction and examples. Pendulum equation, tunnel–diode circuit, mass spring system, negative resistance oscillator, adaptive control. Second–order systems. Multipla equilibria. Limit cycles. Fundamental properties: Existence and uniqueness, continuous dependence on initial conditions and parameters. Differenciability of solutions and sensitivity equations. Comparison principle. Lyapunov stability. Autonomous systems. The invariance principle. Linear systems and linearization. Nonautonomous systems. Converse theorems. Ultimate boundedness. Input–to–state stability. Regulation theory. Full information problem. Output information problem. Robust regulation. Stabilization via linearization. Backstepping. Sliding mode control. Passivity–based control.

Prerequisites and Learning Activities

Control Theory (mandatory). Automatic control (strongly recommended).

Written and oral.
